Risk Reduction

QUESTION: How much does surgery help reduce my risk?

ANSWER: Breast cancer risk is reduced by up to 50 percent in premenopausal women. If a woman's risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in her lifetime is 60 percent, ovary removal could reduce her risk to 30 percent

Ovarian cancer risk is reduced by 90 percent or more. If a woman’s ovarian cancer lifetime risk is 30 percent, oophorectomy could reduce her risk to 3 percent.
